Troubleshooting Automatic TransmissionsNO FORWARD – Serious transmission failure in almost all cases NO UPSHIFT – Less serious, as in vacuum related, throttle cable or governor. NOISE IN LOWER GEARS – Difficult diagnosis, can be anything from gears to a bad transmission mount (insulator). HARD SHIFTING – Usually less serious, in nature such as vacuum or throttle adjustment. SOFT SHIFTING – Late and soft shifting is not a good thing. Early signs of soft or slipping shifts become normal when adjusted upward.
